Product Concept & Architecture
We engineered the system around the Jieli JL7016 Audio DSP, utilizing its dual-core architecture to handle dual-mic beamforming and audio encoding simultaneously.
Engineering Solution
The hardware features two omnidirectional MEMS microphones placed 60mm apart for optimal phase differentiation. We implemented a custom AGC (Automatic Gain Control) algorithm running on the JL7016's DSP core to normalize whispers and loud noises dynamically. Audio is saved to an SD card while simultaneously streamed via BLE to the companion app.
Result
Achieved an SNR of 65dB even in crowded environments. 30-hour recording life on a 500mAh battery.

Why use Jieli JL7016 instead of a standard ARM core?+
JL7016 has a dedicated dual-core DSP and audio-optimized peripherals that allow for real-time beamforming and noise reduction at much lower power consumption than a general-purpose ARM Cortex-M processor.
How is the dual-mic beamforming implemented?+
We use a phase-differentiation algorithm running on the DSP core, with a 60mm physical spacing between MEMS mics to achieve optimal spatial filtering and focus on human speech while cancelling ambient noise.
What is the 'Neural AGC' mentioned?+
It's a TinyML model that predicts the ideal gain based on environmental noise profiles, preventing clipping during sudden loud noises while boosting whispers in high-ceiling or open-office environments.
