Emotional companion robot with facial recognition.

A robotics startup building an expressive, track-based desktop companion that recognizes its owner.
Integrating motor control, face recognition, and a display for eyes within a tiny $40 BOM budget.
We utilized the Allwinner V831, an ultra-low-cost, highly integrated IPC (IP Camera) SoC with a 0.2 TOPS NPU. It runs an embedded Linux system (Tina Linux).
To save costs, we bypassed dedicated motor driver ICs and used the V831's hardware PWM outputs combined with simple H-bridges to control the tracks. The NPU runs a lightweight MTCNN for face detection and MobileFaceNet for recognition. A 1.54-inch IPS SPI screen displays dynamic animated eyes based on the face recognition state.
Recognizes the owner in 300ms. Reacts to movement by rotating its tracks. Total BOM cost achieved at $38.50.
