An educational publisher launching an Android tablet with locked-down software and local AI tutoring capabilities.
Challenge
Creating a secure, cost-effective tablet capable of recognizing handwritten math formulas via the camera without cloud dependency.
Product Concept & Architecture
The Unisoc T610 (Octa-core 4G LTE SoC) was selected for its balance of performance and extreme cost-efficiency. It powers an 8-inch FHD display and a 5MP down-facing camera.
Engineering Solution
We developed a custom Android 11 AOSP ROM with deep MDM (Mobile Device Management) locks to prevent app sideloading. The AI tutoring feature utilizes the T610's ARM Cortex-A75 cores to run an ONNX-based OCR model. A custom 3D-printed mirror attachment reflects the desk surface into the camera, allowing the AI to 'see' what the child is writing.
Result
96% accuracy in recognizing handwritten equations. Complete offline functionality. Unit cost kept under $65 for mass production.
